Cheetahs are frequently killed by farmers protecting their livestock even though the actual damage they make to livestock is relatively minor. Cheetahs are profoundly effected by loss of prey from human hunting and the development of land for agriculture and other purposes. Hunting for skins and illegal trade in cubs and adults many of whom die during transportation has also effected the Cheetah population.
